In 2009 I was honored to have my artwork displayed on the OB floor of Hudson Hospital in collaboration with The Phipps Center for the Arts. It is was a part of an ongoing program since 2001 to exhibit, acquire and commission original work by regional artists. It is the only one of its kind that involves a collaboration between two community-based organizations.
This is a unique example of what the health care field has come to realize that a healing environment can have a positive impact on a patient’s health and well-being. The visual arts can create an atmosphere that is both inviting to the patient and staff.
At any given time, work by several regional artists is on display in waiting areas, conference rooms, patient and staff corridors, procedure rooms, and patient rooms. Exhibits are rotated every three to four months, offering variety and interest for staff, as well as opportunities for many regional artists to participate.
My work included my mother and child series in watercolor that they had displayed on the OB floor. I was inspired to produce the series during the pregnancy and birth of my children. These paintings were turned into greeting cards and prints that are now sold in hospitals. Take a look at them in the cards section!
